The Welcome Center is a newly designed campus entrance that creates a warm, secure, and inviting first impression for every visitor while improving the daily experience for students, families, faculty, alumnae, and guests.
The entrance to campus is often a visitor’s first interaction with Mayfield. The Welcome Center enhances hospitality while strengthening campus security, improving visitor flow, and creating a welcoming experience that reflects the excellence and character of the school.
What features will the Welcome Center include?
- A welcoming reception area for visitors at the front of Hayden Commons
- Visitor screening and check-in
- Improved visibility to Pike Commons, the driveway, and campus entrance
- A discreet mailroom hidden from visitor view
- Comfortable seating and abundant natural light
- Decorative lighting that complements Mayfield’s historic architecture

- A digital display featuring announcements, storytelling, and campus highlights
How does the Welcome Center improve campus safety?
The redesigned space provides clearer sight lines and a dedicated visitor reception area, allowing guests to be welcomed, screened, and directed efficiently while maintaining a secure campus environment.
Why relocate the mailroom?
Moving the mailroom out of public view creates a cleaner, more welcoming arrival experience while improving operational efficiency behind the scenes.
How will the Welcome Center reflect Mayfield's identity?
The space is designed to celebrate the Mayfield community through carefully curated student displays, digital storytelling, and architectural details that honor the historic beauty of campus while embracing modern functionality.
Will the Welcome Center only benefit visitors?
No. While it enhances the visitor experience, it also improves daily operations for students, faculty, staff, parents, alumnae, delivery personnel, and community partners by creating a more organized, secure, and efficient campus entrance.
How does this project support the school's mission?
The Welcome Center reflects Mayfield’s commitment to hospitality, community, and stewardship. It creates an environment where every guest feels welcomed while supporting a safe and vibrant campus rooted in the Holy Child tradition.
What is the Sr. Barbara Mullen Learning Center?
The Sr. Barbara Mullen Learning Center is a 3,000-square-foot academic hub designed to support the way students learn today. It will combine research resources, academic support services, collaborative learning spaces, and quiet study areas into one central location that serves every student throughout her Mayfield experience.
Why is Mayfield transforming the library into a Learning Center?
Libraries have evolved beyond housing books alone. Today’s students learn through collaboration, digital research, independent study, and personalized academic support. The Learning Center reflects these changes while preserving the library’s essential role as the intellectual heart of campus.
What will students find inside the Learning Center?
- Rich print collections and digital research resources
- Purposeful spaces for quiet study
- Areas for small-group collaboration and project-based learning
- A dedicated Testing Center for academic accommodations
- Offices for Learning Specialists
- Offices for two Ninth Grade Academic Deans
- Integrated technology and research support
How does the Learning Center support student success?
The Learning Center brings together the people, resources, and spaces students use every day. By locating Learning Specialists, Academic Deans, testing accommodations, research support, and collaborative learning in one accessible location, students receive timely guidance that strengthens confidence, academic achievement, and long-term success.
Why are the 9th Grade Academic Deans located in the Learning Center?
The transition into Upper School is one of the most important periods in a student’s academic journey. Housing the 9th Grade Academic Deans within the Learning Center allows students to receive immediate support while creating stronger connections between academic advising, learning support, and classroom success.
Why is a dedicated Testing Center important?
A dedicated Testing Center provides students who receive academic accommodations with a consistent, quiet, and appropriately supported environment. It helps ensure every student has equitable access to the resources they need to demonstrate their knowledge and reach their potential.
Will traditional library resources still be available?
Yes. The Learning Center continues to provide extensive print collections while expanding access to digital resources, research coaching, and technology. It builds upon the strengths of a traditional library while meeting the evolving needs of today’s learners.
How does this project reflect Mayfield's mission?
The Learning Center embodies Cornelia Connelly’s call to “meet the wants of the age.” It supports the whole student by fostering curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking, and personalized academic support within an environment grounded in the Holy Child philosophy.
Who will benefit from the Learning Center?
Every Mayfield student will benefit. Whether conducting research, collaborating on projects, meeting with a Learning Specialist, taking an accommodated assessment, receiving academic advising, or finding a quiet place to study, the Learning Center will support students throughout their four years.
