Who was Jack Malarkey?
A proud 1951 graduate of St. Jerome’s High School, Mr. Malarkey—affectionately known as “Mr. Marian”—was a pillar of our school for decades. From his roles as principal, coach, and even bus driver, to his role as a trusted mentor and friend, Jack’s dedication to Marian Catholic was unwavering.
Mr. Malarkey’s name is etched into our school’s very foundation—not only as the namesake of our gymnasium, but also as a member of the Marian Athletic Hall of Fame and one of the first to receive the “Distinguished Alumnus Award”, honoring graduates of Marian Catholic and its predecessor schools. He was also awarded the “Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award for Marian Catholic High School” from the Diocese of Allentown in 2014 for his witness to the Catholic faith and support of Catholic education. His life’s work stands as a testament to the values we hold dear, and his influence is deeply rooted in the spirit and strength of our school.
A true gentleman in every sense, Jack Malarkey leaves behind a legacy of faith, servant leadership, and community that will be remembered always. His impact on generations of students and families will continue to be felt for years to come.

The John ‘51 & Jane Malarkey Endowed Scholarship at Marian Catholic High School was set up in June 2025 in remembrance of John P. ‘51 “Jack” Malarkey at the time of his passing on June 5, 2025. In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy the family has asked for memorial contributions to be made to this scholarship fund.
