A Standing Ovation for Mrs. Claudette Laureano
For 29 years, Mrs. Claudette Laureano has been the heartbeat of the Breck Orchestras, leading with a signature blend of “fire,” exacting standards, and deep devotion for every student in the program. She has taught generations of students that music is more than just notes on a page—it is a lesson in discipline, a study in collaboration, and a way to find one’s own voice. As she prepares to take her final bow this spring, we are launching the Claudette Laureano Legacy Fund to ensure the excellence she built resonates for the next 30 years and beyond.
Your contribution to this fund will directly support orchestral program enrichments. These enrichments may include professional coaching sessions, an artist-in-residence program, original commissions, and potentially, performance opportunities beyond Breck’s campus.
We are humbled by the generosity of fifteen donors who stepped forward to become founding donors in the past month. We welcome additional gifts of all sizes to help us reach a $55K goal. Announcing....A Match Gift from Parents of Breck Orchestra Alumni! - 7 days ago
Generous parents from Breck Orchestra Alumni have stepped forward challenging the Breck community to a $7,500 match gift for the Claudette Laureano Legacy Fund (CLLF). These incredible parent donors will match any gift from a Breck Alum at 2:1 and all other gifts from the Breck community at 1:1 up to a total of $7,500!
Here’s how it works:
- Alumni Gifts will be matched 2:1 (every $100 becomes $300)
- All Other Gifts will be matched 1:1 (every $100 becomes $200)
Whether you are an alum, parent, or friend of the Breck orchestras, your gift will honor our beloved Maestro, Mrs. Laureano, while making a lasting impact on generations of Breck orchestra students to come.

Excerpted from a feature story in Today at Breck Winter 2026…Outside of academics, a passion that was nurtured at Breck that I’ve gotten to explore a lot since graduating is playing the violin! I loved it and grew from it so much. Mrs. Laureano is such a fabulous teacher. At UVA, I joined a string quartet group called Radio Music Society my first semester, and it became my biggest involvement outside of class.

Listen to this beautiful piece. An original commission for Breck School composed by Shelley Hanson. This piece was commissioned by Mrs. Laureano specifically for Breck School’s Orchestra Program and performed at Stringfest 2009. In typical fashion, Mrs. Laureano received the Wiggley Award in 2007 and gave back to her students by having this piece commissioned.
