Spirit of Saint Ignatius Award Recipient

Born in Jersey City, a graduate of Our Lady of Victories Grammar School, the Academy of Saint Aloysius, and The College of New Rochelle where she majored in Speech Pathology and Audiology with a Certificate in Special Education. She earned an MA in Educating Students with Learning Disabilities from Jersey City State Teachers College.

She was employed as a Special Education Teacher at Marlboro High School and at West Essex Regional Middle School where she created the self-contained class for students with varied special needs to ensure that they were in a regular public school setting. She retired in 2021 after 34 years of educational leadership.

Seton’s connection to Saint Peter’s is deep and wide. The wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, niece and cousin of Prep graduates. Most importantly, she met her late husband, Bill Ahearn, ’75 in their senior year of high school and they were married in 1981. They welcomed Liam, ’01 in 1983 and Caitlin in 1986. Following the family’s Jesuit tradition, Liam graduated from Georgetown and Caitlin from Fordham. Liam is married to Allison Kelly, while Caitlin is married to Sean Cochran. Seton has been blessed with five grandchildren – Charlotte, Will and Eleanor Ahearn and Bill and Louis Cochran.

Over Liam’s student years and beyond, Seton and Bill hosted accepted students and their parents at a reception in their home in Cranford. Their efforts markedly increased enrollment from Union County. In 2008, Father Bob Reiser, S.J., asked Seton and Bill to serve as co-chairs of the Inaugural Prep 144 Grand Gala. In that role, they developed the format of the evening and the important concept of “Fund a Scholar” which has provided more than $5 million in aid over the life of the event.
