Climate Initiative Campaign

Since our founding in 1958, St. Michael’s School has been a leader in Tucson education—not only in academic excellence, but in educating the whole child and nurturing the mind, body, and spirit of every student.

More than six decades later, we remain committed to that same vision. Through a comprehensive and innovative educational experience, St. Michael’s prepares students for success by developing intellectual curiosity, confidence, compassion, and character. We believe excellence is measured not only by what our students achieve, but by the people they become.

As we honor the rich traditions of St. Michael’s and our history as a Tucson leader in education, we must also ensure that our historic campus is prepared to serve today’s students and generations to come. In 2024, we embarked on a long-term capital campaign focused on thoughtfully stewarding our National Register of Historic Places campus while making the improvements necessary to meet the needs of a modern school community.

Our first priority was upgrading air conditioning throughout our classrooms. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our donors, new air conditioning has now been installed in the majority of our classrooms, with the final three classrooms scheduled for completion in summer 2027.

Now, we are turning our attention to our campus’s largest remaining climate need: our gymnasium.

The gym is at the heart of student life at St. Michael’s. It is a place for physical education, athletics, school traditions, performances, gatherings, celebrations, and community events. Yet for much of the year, Tucson’s extreme temperatures significantly limit how this important space can be used.

The Climate Initiative is our $1.1 million campaign to change that.

By installing air conditioning in the gymnasium, we will transform it into a comfortable, functional, year-round space—one that better supports the mind, body, and spirit of our students and expands what is possible for our entire school community.

This project is about more than air conditioning. It is an investment in the future of St. Michael’s: preserving the campus generations have loved while ensuring it continues to serve generations yet to come.
