Reflecting on my Proctor experience there was a lot of be grateful for (Proctor en Segovia, skiing during weekdays after class, making friends with global backgrounds). Our family's experience at Proctor changed all of our lives. Dave could not have had a better experience. With the support of caring faculty he tried many new things including living in Spain for a semester, Outdoor classroom, kayaking and others. His confidence in academics improved. He was validated for his character and ability with people. He is now a teacher at The Carroll School in Lincoln, a school much like Proctor, which teaches kids with language based learning issues. I credit his success there to his years at Proctor!

I’m sure it’s obvious to many just how much Proctor has impacted my personal life. My parents met as young professionals working at Proctor in the late 80s. They raised my sister and me in on campus housing until 1999. Even after moving off campus, interacting with faculty, staff, students, and the entire community remained an enormous part of our lives. We became students, and then alumni. Proctor is where Evan and I met, and it is my sincerest hope that we are raising our kids with the values that Proctor instilled in us. Simply put, my entire family traces back to one simple foundation: Proctor.
What is not always so obvious is how my bond with Proctor has guided me professionally. One of the most important lessons Proctor taught me is a deep respect for community. Proctor taught me that community is not just a geographical area or group of people, but in fact a value. It means caring for one another and the world around us so that everyone can succeed. It is this belief that brought me to seek a career focused on providing healthcare to all members of our communities. I sought out opportunities where I could build relationships with patients, learn their stories, and help find health solutions that were feasible and effective. No treatment or support will ever be effective if they are not actually accessible to the patient. Being a part of the Proctor community is how I learned to look at problems from all different angles, to do research, to ask questions, to ultimately solve problems and help our communities grow.

My parents, Nancy and Spencer Wright, taught at Proctor for twenty years and my siblings and I grew up on that beautiful campus. It was a magical childhood.
