Blackie hired me straight out of college with no teaching experience or training (this was a long time ago). When the first class he visited was a deadly boring disaster, he helped me. We discussed the class, and he allowed me to voice how poorly it had gone rather than enumerating all the flaws himself. He then suggested some strategies. He returned not long after, I employed his suggestions, and the class was a rousing interactive success, saving my dignity (and my job). Blackie’s humanity in working with rather than chastising a brand new teacher was the difference between me ditching a hard job or keeping it for 35 years.

I support the school that had a tremendous impact on me: it made my further educational and career advancement possible.
