This school is located in the heart of North Philly and provides the best quality education possible for inner city children. While it may not be affordable for some it does provide help in many other ways. I had 9 family members, 4grands and 5 children attend the school where 7 did graduate and the other two moved to another state but had a beautiful experience. Sister Ellen was very instrumental in helping my family by always being available for whatever we needed, she was a true saint and her presence in the school and community will be missed. My children and grandchildren are doing well because of their educational foundation beginning at the GESU school. Im always an advocate of it of the GESU School when anyone ask. God bless and I pray for the children and families who decide to make GESU their educational selection.

My mom never got to visit Gesu, living across the country, but asked me about the school and students often. She believed in the mission as much as I do. She passed unexpectedly in late September 2025 but volunteered with a teen group and always supported equity for all in education and other areas of life.

Gesu is a school where the entire staff shows students love and support.

I can’t wait for you to meet your fundraising goal!

I am a graduate of the Prep (1968). My dad, our four children, and I were all trained by the IHM in elementary school (St. Philomena, Lansdowne, Immaculate Conception, Somerville, and Sacred Heart, Manoa). My aunt was an IHM (Sr. Maria Corona) and introduced my mom and dad. My uncle taught at the Prep (Richard C. Schmidt, SJ) in what is now the Gesu School. Our second daughter is a physician at St. Chris, also in North Philly. Fr. George Burr is one of my heroes. So the ties to Gesu School are deep and varied.
