About
Dear Fellow Gentlemen of the CBC Class of 1966,
What’s up, Doc?
That’s right — you can finally say that to me, and I’ll understand what you mean this time! When I first arrived at CBC for our senior year, straight from Korea and speaking no English, I thought Bugs Bunny was a medical professional. Brother Daniel tried to prepare me with a crash course in English a month before school started, but nothing could have prepared me for Bugs Bunny or SLUH football games.
I was voted “Most Typical Student” — probably for good reason. I was a senior sitting in Mr. Klemm’s freshman American History class. I earned a 10-point demerit for being late to a football game (against SLUH, no less!). In Mr. Lakey’s Physics class, I had all the answers — literally. Do you remember the April Fool’s Joke?
And Halloween? I thought it was some sort of emergency. While I frantically flipped through the dictionary, my family and I were ambushed by small people in masks demanding candy. We panicked, jumped in the car, and drove around St. Louis until it was safe to return. Don’t get me started on trying to understand what a raffle ticket was — or Prom, for that matter.
But thanks to CBC, and all of you, I graduated — with honors. I made it through the language, the customs, and somehow, even the football games. I eventually became a professor and now serve as Professor Emeritus of the Department of Medicine at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
And now, I’m asking for your help.
Let’s bring our Class of 1966 Scholarship Fund to the $50,000 initiation mark. Currently we have $40,104 in the fund. Together, we can make it possible for another “most typical” to have the same shot we had — whether he’s from Korea or Kirkwood. Every dollar helps. Every memory counts.
Let’s honor our shared past by investing in someone’s future. I promise—no demerits for being late this time, but let’s accomplish or exceed the goal before our 60th reunion this September.
With gratitude and nostalgia,
Moon Nahm ‘66
Most Typical, Most Grateful
