The Breck Fund
When it comes to inspiring the leaders of tomorrow— We’re all in!
What is the Breck Fund and what impact does it have on Breck's educational experience?
Similar to most private schools and colleges, tuition and endowment draws make up 80% of Breck’s annual operating budget. The Breck Fund bridges the gap between tuition and endowment support and the full cost of a Breck education.
The Breck Fund elevates our educational model from foundational academic programming to a fully immersive Breck experience. Specifically, gifts to the Breck Fund help the school:
Attract and retain outstanding faculty;
Provide strategic enhancements to academic, athletic, and recreational spaces;
Enhance teaching and learning with upgraded technology for students and faculty, alongside a strong professional development program for educators;
Ensure student and faculty well-being with continual improvements to security infrastructure;
Provide support for community partnerships, financial assistance, student initiatives, and parent education
How does a Breck Fund gift differ from gifts to a capital campaign or an endowment?
Gifts to the Breck Fund support school’s current operating budget making an immediate impact on the school year in which the gift is given. This differs significantly from capital campaigns, which typically fund large-scale projects like new buildings and campus enhancements/expansion, and endowment gifts, which are invested for long-term growth.
Why are we asked every year to give to the Breck Fund?
Breck operates as a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, without financial support from public sources. Gifts to the Breck Fund form a critical part of our operating budget given that net tuition and endowment draws cover only 80% of the true cost of educating a Breck student. We rely on annual fundraising to bridge this gap with a gift that is meaningful for your family.
How much of a difference does my gift really make?
Large or small, every gift makes a difference as participation of any amount signals the community’s commitment to the school’s mission and inspires further investment from our broader community. We strive for 100% participation in the Breck Fund from parents, alumni and faculty. This not only fuels Breck’s mission, but also strengthens our ability to secure grants from donors, foundations, and corporations.
Gifts to the Breck Fund help ensure that both current and future students continue to benefit from the exceptional educational experience Breck has provided since its founding in 1886.
How is a gift to the Breck Fund different from a gift to the Blue and Gold Bash or a gift to Breck's endowment?
By supporting the Breck Fund or The Blue and Gold Bash, you directly impact the lived experience of current Breck students during this fiscal year. These funds are vital as they enhance the academic, arts and extracurricular programs, and provide flexibility to address immediate needs across the school.
The primary difference between the two is in their execution. The Blue and Gold Bash is a festive gala event held in March that requires a ticket to attend. In contrast, the Breck Fund has no entry cost and contributions can be made at any time during the year.
Contributions to Breck’s endowment serve as enduring assets. These assets are invested to generate long-term income for the school’s future, rather than being spent in the current fiscal year.
