Saint Joseph’s College Athletics and President Jim Dlugos is pleased to announce that we are beginning a campaign to name the court within the Alfond Center - “Mike McDevitt Court”. In recognizing Coach McDevitt in this special way, we align with a tradition throughout the world of college basketball; honoring a coach who has positively influenced so many student-athletes and who has, through great success, brought recognition to student-athletes and brought joy and pride to the college community. The recognition will also allow the Athletics Department to launch a fundraising campaign for the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
For his basketball accomplishments as a student-athlete (class of 1983), Mike was inducted as part of the SJC Hall of Fame class of 2011. His statistics include 1300 career points and almost 700 career rebounds.
He is bound for another SJC Hall of Fame induction in the future; this for his coaching accomplishments:
534 wins, 20th among all active women’s basketball college coaches
.740 winning percentage
14 Coach of the Year Awards
27 seasons, 18 conference championships
Unprecedented recent run of NCAA Tournament Appearances in 5 of the last 6 seasons
This opportunity to celebrate all that Mike has done also provides an opportunity to launch a fundraising campaign that will bring facility enhancements to The Alfond Center - the first enhancement being brand new team rooms for both men’s and women’s basketball; along with a lobby suite. The campaign kicked off on December 1st 2019 with a goal to raise $1.5 million.
